Recent statistics show that in Iraq women constitute more than 60% of citizens who are completely inactive. Just 7% of women own companies in Iraq, roughly a quarter of other countries in the region and only 1.1% of senior manager sin Iraq are likely to be women.
Data released by the World Bank Group shows that closing the gap between male and female employment rates would have huge implications for the local economy. In order to do this raising overall awareness of the benefits of women’s employment and education, as well as the negative impact of gender discrimination, is considered to be crucial. Recent conferences, both regional and Iraq specific have highlighted the importance of strong female role models, accurate information and the right kind of tools and education to enable women to participate more fully. This is where Nina comes in.
